After Balmain’s sell out Spring/Summer collection took the fashion world by storm this summer, the look appears to be staying with us for at least another season. Stars sporting this trend include Rachel Bilson, SJP, Ashley Olsen and Kate Bosworth and there are lots of ways to wear it, so here are some tips from the Models Direct office…
Keep the fit skinny and low rise
Pair your faded jeans with a vintage rock chick vest/t-shirt
Add a leather biker jacket, military jacket or polish the look with a crisp cut blazer
Dress up your look and make it dancefloor-appropriate with ankle boots, studded/embellished high heels or strappy platforms
Bunch the jeans up at the ankle or roll the hem to show off your footwear
Accessorise with studded or spiked Jewellery
Be Afraid of straps, skulls, ruffles and studs…the more the better!
Jessica Simpson may have made a ‘boob’ with her new lingerie collection.
She signed a deal back in May with ‘Van Dale’ industries but it is unclear who came up with the name for the collection ‘Intimates’. This is of course the same name as Elle Macpherson’s underwear range! Is this a ploy to attract or trick Elle’s customers or am I being cynical? Could this really be considered a coincidence?
When asked about what we should expect from Jessica Simpson’s ‘Intimates’, she said they were ‘feminine and sweet with a hint of fun’.
Reebok has teamed up with Cirque du Soleil to create Jukari – ‘Fit to Fly’, a workout that combines simple acrobatics with trapeze. Apparently you feel as if you’re flying throughout much of your workout, how cool does that sound?
Mischa Barton is a huge fan, she says “It’s such fun! Spinning on the Fly Set is a new challenge to master and I love how it works my core.”
Classes are held at the Reebok Sports Club, Canary Wharf but will be available nationwide later this summer – find your nearest club here.
Christina Aguilera will be begin filming for ‘Burlesque’ in November, a movie where she will play a small town girl who makes it in a Los Angeles burlesque club. This will be Aguilera’s first movie and she is very excited to be working alongside Cher.
“Cher will be starring with me, so it’s very exciting for me to step into that project and I’ll be taking it very seriously, so that’s actually what I am diving into filming over the next few months,” she commented to the Associated Press.
The movie is being directed by Steve Antin, whose brother, Robin Antin, is founder of the Pussy Cat Dolls.
Christina Aguilera is currently recording her new album, which she has described as “futuristic” but she denies being influenced by acts such as Lady Gaga. She has also just launched her own online radio show.
Self confessed trainer addict (and producer/DJ) Mark Ronson is collaborating with Gucci to design limited edition trainers for their new concept ‘Gucci Icon – Temporary’.
‘Gucci Icon – Temporary’ has been created by Gucci’s creative Director Frida Giannini. It is a ‘pop-up’ trainer store that is set to travel the world stopping in locations such as Paris, London, New York, Tokyo and Berlin, remaining in each city for just a few weeks.
The store will stock all 18 of the Gucci/Ronson trainer designs, 16 for men, 2 for women, which were inspired by each of the cities due to be visited.
Gucci’s iconic GG logo and famous red and green stripe has been incorporated by Frida Giannini in the new trainer designs. It will be interesting to see Ronson’s contribution.
‘I spent many, many years as an avid sneaker collector, so I wanted to make sure these Gucci shoes were truly special from an aesthetic and collectable point of view,’ he commented to – http://www.wwd.com/ WWD .
It seems the average girl on the street is being inspired by the more rebellious role models as we head towards 2010.
The pop princesses of Girls Aloud, The Saturdays and Pussycat Dolls, to name a few, appear to be falling behind in the style stakes to the less manicured and designer dressed rock chick – who is now leading the way for young women who want a more feisty and fearless appearance!
It has long been known that even super model and ‘secret rock star’ Kate Moss favours understated skinny jeans and vests to cutesy dresses and accessories. Now she has been joined by the likes of Natasha Khan from Bat for Lashes, Katie White from The Ting Tings, Pixie Lott, Little Boots and Ladyhawke in a fashion revolution – and we like it!
With only one hour’s notice the night before a shoot was due to take place, girls from our assignments department received a call from a desperate client who needed three ethnic models on a photographic shoot for Londis the next morning. The shoot locations were Dundee and Perth and the client, award winning Matt Wain Photography, required models to be photographed as shoppers in the store.
Models Jatesh, Magdalena and Farideh all stepped in at the last minute and thoroughly enjoyed the shoot, with Jatesh being described as “brilliant, professional class!” despite it being his very first modelling assignment.
Jatesh commented “I enjoyed my photo shoot at Londis. Matt the photographer and his team were really nice and they were easy to speak to. I don’t think I could say anything bad about the day at all, everything went well and I can’t wait to do another job. Hopefully all photographers are as friendly as Matt.”
