I’ve come to believe that all the best discoveries are made during bouts of extreme procrastination. I bet the Greek Philosophers all sat around on rocks all day, remarking on the weather and avoiding their responsibilities – and hey, they came up with some pretty good ideas we still use today, which really only goes to prove my point…
But, rambling aside, I must share the following kitsch, procrastination-inspired find:
It’s a memo pad made to look like a block of wood. Now how amazing is that?!
In a recent interview with publication ‘Good Housekeeping’, the 59-year old star talked about her surprise at still having a place in the modelling industry now that she’s nearing 60.
“It’s weird, isn’t it? I never dreamed this modelling thing would happen again. Who would? It’s normally a young person’s game,” she told them. “But I’m proud to be part of the M&S campaign and it’s right to get someone of my age modelling clothes as well as young models. There are a large number of over-40s who are fashion led.”
First discovered in the sixties, Twiggy returned to her career in modelling in 2005, when she was approached by high-street department store chain Marks & Spencer to front their latest advertising campaign. The promotion was a roaring success, and she has been with the company ever since, working with Myleene Klass and boyband Take That at different times.
She says: “Getting upset about ageing is pointless. I’m fine with what I look like. I exercise, I eat well, but I’m not fanatical because you’ve got to have a life.”
Here at Models Direct, we think it’s wonderful to see older models still active in their careers, and are glad to see such an ageless beauty so comfortable with what she looks like!
Every child has an idea of what they’d like to be when they grow up; although maybe some are a little unrealistic with their choices (I’m not ashamed to admit that I wanted to be an astronaut).
The success of Formula 1 racers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button over the last couple of seasons has had many British fans on the edge of their seats. I’m sure it has also inspired a new generation of drivers.
Becoming a racing driver is probably a common desire of young boys, and probably some girls as well. In fact I know plenty of grown-ups who would still consider this their dream job!
Soon, even if they don’t have the car, children will be able to dress like last year’s champion Lewis Hamilton. Marks & Spencer has announced the launch of Formula 1 inspired range ‘Living The Dream’. M&S is working with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team to create clothing inspired the team’s suits and logos. The range will be available in stores and online from September 19th.
Personally, I’d prefer to see some Braun GP clothing, I’m more of a Button fan…
Reebok has teamed up with Cirque du Soleil to create Jukari – ‘Fit to Fly’, a workout that combines simple acrobatics with trapeze. Apparently you feel as if you’re flying throughout much of your workout, how cool does that sound?
Mischa Barton is a huge fan, she says “It’s such fun! Spinning on the Fly Set is a new challenge to master and I love how it works my core.”
Classes are held at the Reebok Sports Club, Canary Wharf but will be available nationwide later this summer – find your nearest club here.
I, like many other women I’m sure, seem to have no shoes suitable for walking in rainy weather. I should know better – we’re all aware of what British weather’s like!
Now problems of leaky shoes and slippery soles have been solved by Shuellas, which are sort of like wellies that fit over your normal shoes. Rebecca Miller designed the product so that they could easily be folded up and carried around in a bag or briefcase when they’re not being used. They even come with a cloth to wipe off any dirty water that’s left when you’ve finished using them. They have been designed so they can be worn over shoes with heels of any size, but not to be used with trainers and other bulky shoes.
I haven’t seen anyone wearing them yet but I hope I do soon. They’re quite expensive at $49.95 but they look better than walking around with plastic bags wrapped around your feet, which works well for festivals but looks a bit silly on the way to work! I suppose they’re worth it if they keep your shoes (and feet) in better condition though.
Christina Aguilera will be begin filming for ‘Burlesque’ in November, a movie where she will play a small town girl who makes it in a Los Angeles burlesque club. This will be Aguilera’s first movie and she is very excited to be working alongside Cher.
“Cher will be starring with me, so it’s very exciting for me to step into that project and I’ll be taking it very seriously, so that’s actually what I am diving into filming over the next few months,” she commented to the Associated Press.
The movie is being directed by Steve Antin, whose brother, Robin Antin, is founder of the Pussy Cat Dolls.
Christina Aguilera is currently recording her new album, which she has described as “futuristic” but she denies being influenced by acts such as Lady Gaga. She has also just launched her own online radio show.
Is it too early to think about what I want for Christmas? Because I’ve fallen in love with these necklaces.
Whilst perusing the internet for some exciting fashion news I came across the fashion blog What’s Wrong With The Zoo, and a post featuring these necklaces caught my eye. They are all available on Etsy but some are very pricey, one of the beaded necklaces costs $2700!
Statement necklaces are a great way to accessorise an outfit, and some bold and interesting designs have been seen on the catwalk this year from Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel to name just a few. The necklaces have been all shapes, sizes, colours and materials, with stones, beads and thick metal chains being popular choices in this year’s autumn/winter collections.
I better make sure I’m good for the rest of the year!
