Models Direct Profile: Erin Wasson

Erin Wasson with Justin Timberlake for William Rast

If you were to look at supermodel Erin Wasson’s CV you’d be impressed. In her 27 years she has walked international runways for some of the top designers, is an occasional stylist for Alexander Wang, is a favourite with some amazing photographers and has now turned to designing, directing her own jewellery line, LowLuv, and a womenswear collection. She even worked alongside Justin Timberlake in the multimedia campaign for his clothing line William Rast.

Wasson grew up in Texas, and believes this southern upbringing has directly influenced her success in the industry. “You can’t take the Texas out of the girl,” the supermodel told Teen Vogue. “I wouldn’t have gotten this far in the fashion world if I didn’t have a little bit of that Southern hospitality in me.” Read articles about the model and you will be sure to find her endearing and charming personality mentioned.

Erin’s modelling career began when her father entered her in Kim Dawson’s Modelsearch. It was 1997 and the first year of the competition, which Erin ultimately won. She left the south and started a new life in New York. Being thrown straight into the deep end, Erin had her first campaign in 2002 for Dolce & Gabbana.

Erin has appeared on the front cover of fashion magazines internationally, including Vogue, Esquire and Elle. One factor in her success is her versatility when it comes to campaigns; Erin has proved popular in both high fashion and commercial advertisements. She has an extensive portfolio, too long to list, but it includes fashion giants Gucci, Chanel and Versace.

In her spare time, the former ‘sports freak’ enjoys surfing and snowboarding. This directly influenced the model’s decision to design for skate and surf fashion lifestyle brand, RCVA. The end result, Erin Wasson x RCVA, is a stylish but understated collection that reflects the model’s own laidback style.

Erin also dabbled in a bit of acting as part of the William Rast campaign, starring in short films as Justin Timberlake’s love interest. Ladies, if you weren’t jealous already, no doubt you are now!

Sarah Jessica Parker to be face of Halston fashion

It’s been revealed in an article by the Daily Mail that Sarah Jessica Parker has signed contracts with US fashion label Halston in the first steps towards an advertising campaign to be launched alongside the second Sex And The City film next spring.

Given the success of the first film, it seems a great move for Halston to get involved with the established fashionista before the second one launches! Here at Models Direct, we’re excited to see what the campaign will look like, and whether the clothes themselves will be Sex And The City inspired…

Modelling Experience With Models Direct

Models Direct Models Direct Models Direct

When you first start a modelling career it can be a bit daunting, but the more assignments you do the more confidence you gain, making the whole experience more enjoyable. Many models would be grateful for the opportunity to get some more experience at the start of their career, even if it did mean working for free!

This was the case when student Melanie approached Models Direct looking for four models who were willing to participate in a fashion show to raise funds for Cancer Research. Of course we were more than willing to help out and our team had no problem finding the four women to take part.

The lucky models were Rebecca H, Rebecca B, Carly and Emma. This was the first catwalk assignment for all of them and they had a great day. It was made even more special as it was for such a good cause.

“It’s everything I ever wanted to do so being a model for the day felt like the beginning of my dreams” comments Rebecca H. “It was a great experience and I would love to do it again.”

Front Row at London Fashion Week

This is floating around the internet at the moment as probably the funniest photo from London Fashion Week (18th-22nd September) and here at Models Direct we can’t help but chuckle.

US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour seems very unimpressed by being stuck next to the fashion youngsters Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof at the Twenty8Twelve show.

A stern-faced Wintour looks obviously annoyed (look at her body language!) sitting next to Alexa and Pixie, who hugged and pulled faces throughout the show.

Ok, so if I’d have been there they probably would have annoyed me too, but does anyone else think Anna should lighten up a bit?

Harry Potter: Style Icon?

Most people will have been aware of the release of the latest addition to the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and I’m sure plenty of you have been to see it.

It seems Harry Potter has become a bit of a style icon, with lots of people rushing to buy similar circle shaped glasses frames. Glasses Direct have noticed the sale of the John Lennon frames (£69, code: JL260F) increase dramatically as people try to achieve the wizard’s look.

The founder of Glasses Direct said “The Harry Potter-style glasses have been getting more and more popular recently and we’re seeing them flying off the shelves, on broomsticks! What we’re surprised by is that the popularity of these glasses seems to span all ages.”

And at least if this look doesn’t catch on, you’ve got an accessory for the next fancy dress party you attend, and two options of who you could go as!

So, the fashion has recently gone from square, Buddy Holly style glasses to thin, metallic circular frames, what shape frames will it be next?

Sex And The City filming delayed, but open casting call announced!

Models Direct: Sex And The City filming delayed, but open casting call announced!

It’s been announced this week that the filming of the second Sex And The City film has been delayed until the end of August.

The fashion-centred Sex And The City brand began back in 1998 with a TV show that ran for six seasons on the American cable channel HBO and received acclaim globally. The show centred on the sex lives of four modern New York women, with the main character being fashion-obsessed and writing for Vogue later in the series.

In 2008, a film based on the original series was released, starring all of the original cast and picking up with the characters four years later.

It was announced in February that a sequel to the film was in the works. It has more recently been reported that the main characters from the series and from the first film will be reprising their roles once again in Sex And The City 2, which is as yet unnamed.

Despite the delays that have been announced, apparently due to authorities in Dubai refusing filming rights within the country, the film’s release is still expected on May 28th, 2010.

Alongside the notice that filming would be delayed, an open casting call for the new film has also been announced. Taking place in New York, the casting call will fall on August 4th and will be looking for extras to feature in the film.

The Sex And The City bosses are apparently looking for people who look like “international types,” professional soccer players, fashion models, urban club goers, gays and lesbians, celebrity types, and upscale socialites.

I don’t think I quite fit the bill! Will any of you be having a go at auditioning?
