Getting the Right Kind of Modelling Practice

Modelling is one of those jobs where people often won’t give you good advice, especially other models. When competition is high, people tend to keep their cards close to their chests. We were thinking to ourselves recently, how can people get experience that might help them to get better assignments? One idea we had was still life modelling.

Although slightly different to most people’s general idea of modelling, modelling for still life art classes can be good money for a couple of hours a week. A typical session lasts 2 hours, during which you have to stay completely still, and pays around £50. It is a myth that you have to be nude and although some classes will request this, many won’t.

Every town in the UK has some form of art group evening classes and every college has still life classes. Getting in touch with your local group might land you an evening or two’s work – and you also get to meet new people and even find a new hobby! Although Models Direct don’t offer these kind of modeling jobs, we do encourage people to think outside the box and make connections that can further their careers. Practicing in front of a mirror can only get you so far, and you won’t have the pressure of being watched so put yourself in a new position, perhaps out of your comfort zone, and get the experience you need to succeed! Models Direct: Modelling for Beginners

Models Direct: Modelling for Beginners

Being a model is one of those jobs that can change your life if you get lucky. Are you thinking of getting involved in the industry any time soon? You can get where you want to be by concentrating on the details and avoiding the mistakes of others. One thing you need to do is learn about the industry. You need to find some time to speak to people in the industry and learn what they did to get where they are. It is possible to do this over the internet without having to search for people physically. There are many agencies out there; some are credible while others are not very reliable. Models Direct have been around for 25 years, an achievement we are proud of. We have heard of many people who end up wasting their time and money focusing on modelling advice style agencies.

As a beginner, you also need to be ready for what is coming ahead of you. Modelling involves a lot of dedication and sacrifice. For example, you may have to lose some weight and you will notice the constant pressure to impress at all times. Caring for your body is the most important aspect of your modelling career. You need to ensure that you are of the right weight and that your skin looks healthy at all times.

Avoid fizzy drinks, even diet ones. They are terrible for facial skin aging, and also have other effects on your health – not just the teeth. Also, avoid weird diets. More often than not, they shock your body into losing weight, and as soon as you return to normal eating you end up like you were before. Little and often is a good phrase to remember, whether it’s for food or exercise. Taking on too much can just be demotivating! Models Direct: Celebrity Mistakes

Welcome to the Models Direct blog. Models Direct are one of the UK’s biggest modelling agencies and specialise in connecting models with clients and modelling jobs. This month we thought we should look at two celebrities that we love and learn about how fame caused problems in their lives, perhaps hoping to learn some lessons. The world finds talent, stardom and beauty irresistible and those who have these qualities are considered special and above the crowd. Celebs appear to have everything that anyone could ever want in life.

Whitney Houston , one of the most beautiful actresses and talented singers ever married retired star Bobby Brown in 1992 at the height of her career. Due to her drug problems, it might not have been the best move to get together with someone with issues of his own. Through their tumultuous marriage, Whitney’s drug abuse only became worse. They divorced in 2007 at a time when Houston was about to record a new album and her life seemed to be going well. She appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show two years later and gave an interview that was noted as being one of the most outspoken. Houston admitted to the world that her drug addiction got out of control after the thundering success of The Bodyguard in 1992. Her world tour in 2010 didn’t salvage her career, though. Her fans were disappointed at the performance and the quality of her voice. She also received numerous negative responses from critics. While she did go to rehab, she never overcame her habit. In 2012, under the influence of cocaine, marijuana and other drugs, she drowned in her bath. Despite this sad end, Whitney Houston is one of the world’s best-selling singers with more than 200 million records sold.

Britney Spears is one of those rare people who start out as a child star. Many models also start as children but Britney has also made the transformation to stardom as an adult. Britney started her career at the age of 11. At this time she was picked for The New Mickey Mouse Club with other later to be famous stars such as Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. After that show she focused on her solo career. After releasing her first single in 1998 and becoming a worldwide sensation, she somehow let her life unravel. In 2004 her reputation and name was ruined due to a strange two day marriage with Jason Alexander. She then had a scandalous love affair with a backup dancer. In that same year she married him and gave birth to their first son. However, their marriage didn’t last long and after the birth of their second son divorce proceedings began. Britney Spears was acknowledged to be mentally ill giving her ex-husband full custody over their children. She has since made a great recovery and we wish her continued success. Models Direct: Get into Modelling

Models Direct know that female modelling is the most competitive segment the business and it really takes a lot of work to progress, and then even more to stay current. This doesn’t mean you have to starve yourself or work out twice a day, but professional female modelling does require that certain life choices are made and followed. In this article we outline several things that you should be doing if you want to get ahead in female modelling.

Take good care of your body. You must look healthy without the make up to look healthy with it, too. Make up doesn’t cover up everything and bad skin or dried out hair will let you down eventually. Eat well, eat a lot, and keep active. Whole grains, wheat, veg, fruit, and non-fatty proteins such as fish and eggs should make up the majority of your diet. Yoghourt with fruit it in makes a far better snack than a sugary cereal bar for example.

Choose your desired area of modelling. There are dozens of specialities that you probably have never heard of. Do some research, look at what they involve. Some have height restrictions, some have weight restrictions, figure out where you might fit in.

Models Direct Guide to Female Modelling

A lot of aspiring female models want to be a model because it brings all the fame and fortune they dream of. However, it’s an extremely competitive and cut-throat business that will more likely break you than make you. Here are some cold, hard truths about becoming a model, and many survive on nothing more than a pot of noodles a night. In these times, it is important to stay focused, remember who you are not lower your standards.

Don’t do any kind of female modelling you are not fully comfortable with.

If you don’t want to do glamour work or are uncomfortable doing full nudity, speak up and don’t let people push you past those limits – a picture lasts a lifetime. It is important to bring an adult who can supervise you at all times. If you want to become fashion models when you are older you may be discriminated against for getting your clothes off, or use it as a PR stunt! Think about your career as a whole and don’t do anything to tarnish your good name.
Having the right modelling agency behind you will make or break your modelling career. Choose an established and reputable agency. If you’ve decided signing with an agency isn’t right for you, you could consider going freelance. But be warned- the pay is usually considerably less and there are fewer safety precautions. Many clients will refuse to work with an un-signed model. Get a good, up-dated modelling portfolio and get cracking on finding the right modelling agency for you.

Generally, any model has to have energy and be healthy, having clear skin, a full head of hair, and good teeth. Other qualities such as height and weight depend on what you’re female modelling, plus size female modelling does not require you to be skinny. If you don’t generally fit the criteria of a model you can try becoming a body parts model. When you turn up for a modelling shoot be professional, polite and friendly and don’t forget to focus on the job. Make sure they remember you positively.
Decide what kind of model you’d like to be. Technically, anybody can be a model. However, do remember that if you don’t meet certain requirements that big brands are attracted to, that big contract you want may not be a reality. Be persistent, learn to handle rejection and believe in yourself and you will succeed.
